           Hey guys, I am back with the very interesting topic. Most of you are from science and mathematics background. At Least you have studied Mathematics till 10th standard. So, have you ever try to explore “what is Mathematics?If you do, it’s fine. If not, let’s do it right now.
         Now, we will start from the ancient time of Pythagoras. So, question is what Mathematics was for those of Pythagoras and the people of that time. Why they use Mathematics? What was the purpose? 
         Now, have a look at the very basic theorem called Pythagoras Theorem:
Pythagoras Theorem: a^2 + b^2 = c^2 for the following right angled triangle.

 
         What Pythagoras thereom explains is following:
If you have two squares with areas 4 sq.units and 3 sq.units. when you add them together then the total area is going to be equivalent to the square with area 5 sq.units. That's it.
          Ancient people used to use mathematics in their daily life. If one person have 1 kg of rice of price 10 rupees and another have 2 shovels of price 5 rupees each. Then it is very obvious to see that one 1 kg of rice is equivalent to 2 shovels logically. These methods were used by ancient people to buy or sold something.
         From this explanation, I think some basic idea of “what is Mathematics?” have been cleared in your mind.
         Now let us consider another example: You all know that if you throw the ball towards the sky, then the ball will definitely falls towards the ground. What is this?  It is nothing but the pull of attraction by the Earth.
          In addition, both of the mentioned concepts are the laws of Nature, Behaviours of the nature. What Pythagoras and newton did is they just observed the laws of nature and present them in front of us in the form of some mathematical equations ( a^2 + b^2 = c^2) ( F= GMm/r^2 ).                                                                                                              From these two example are you ready to accept that Mathematics is not only the subject as most of the student feel. More ever it is the way to communicate with the nature , sometimes Machines also. Mathematics just explains the laws of nature by using signs and equations. In addition Mathematics teaches us how Nature works. All the theorems you studied and will be studying in your syllabus are not just theorems, they are the representations of the rules of the Nature. Mathematics is also called as the language of the God. As it gives us the way to talk to the Nature.
           Since our childhood we are exposed to different languages like state language, international language, ancient language, etc. Now, one should ask the question that “what is language?” language is the way to communicate with one, two, or more communicators. Likewise Mathematics is the language of science. Every scientific study require mathematics. Mathematics is something which is impossible to describe in one word. You can imagine the power of Mathematics that it can describe the whole world by using numbers from 0 to 9. Mathematics is not bounded with educated people only. Somehow every non-educated person also uses Mathematics in his/her daily life. From this you can say mathematics is well connected with our life.
     Now, I am sure that everything is cleared about "what is Mathematics?"

KATHERINE JOHNSON Katherine Coleman Goble Johnson   (born on 26 August 1918, Hampton- Virginia ) is an American mathematician who is well known for her mathematical calculations in orbital mechanics. The space agency noted her " historical role as one of the first African-American women to work as a NASA scientist ".   Her contribution FOR NASA : Johnson's work included calculating trajectories, launch windows and emergency return paths for Project Mercury spaceflights .
